The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has announced the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the Fiscal Years 2024-2026 Promoting Resilient Operations for Transformative, Efficient, and Cost-Saving Transportation (PROTECT) Discretionary Grant Program. This competitive grant program, established by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), aims to enhance the resilience of surface transportation to natural hazards, such as climate change, sea level rise, flooding, and extreme weather events.
About the PROTECT Grant Program
The PROTECT Discretionary Grant Program is designed to help transportation agencies implement projects that improve the resilience of infrastructure to withstand natural disasters and other hazards.
The program offers up to $876 million in funding, distributed over two application periods:
FYs 2024 and 2025: Up to $576 million available
FY 2026: Up to $300 million available
